Summary

This deck has it all, I wanted to find a deck better then the alpine 7998 so i went thru a lot of decks to get their. Like the pioneer 860, and the eclipse 8454, and the kenwood 25th anniversary xxv-01d. The 860 had good bass and bad mids with ok highs. the 8454 had great mids, bad bass and ok highs, the 7998 had great bass, highs and ok mids, the 01d had bad bass, ok mids and bad highs. I have always had a McIntosh mc440 pushing my system with these different decks, my front stage is the phoenix gold ti6 and the rear are infinity perfects 6". So anyways i just wanted to let you know how much time and money i have spent trying to get it right. Oh and my sub has always been the premier ts-w12prs. The premier deh-p980bt has the best sq i have ever had, the 7998 was great with the time alignment but the autoeq and auto rta time alignment is far superior because it makes the adjustments with a mic and adjusts the volume from front to back with crossover points as well. Besides that, lets say your not into time alignment well, I can say just by using the crossover and eq with the 20k up to plus 7 it is the most awesome sounding headunit i have ever heard, its just amazing how the unit has so much headroom, it sounds wide and ever present, the bass was no different it was solid and long throwing as opposed to the computer sounding (xxv-01d & 8454) bass that rattled my car more than throw the bass as it is supposed to do. The voice or mids are so good that with the cd portion i can hear the breath taken before they sing, and the ipod adapter is great because i scroll just like the ipod does thru the menus.. unlike all the other decks i've own which was a nightmare to operate while driving. The other thing that is so cool is the bluetooth phone and audio, my trio phone worked just as it said i was taking from my car and hearing people with bass from my speakers. The bluetooth audio has me thinking about getting the inno with a bt dongle to hear xm, i know i can get the unit with the hu but im thinking about the recording feature with the ability to shuffle between home and school, it would be awesome to have the best of everything but without the limitations.

Strength

sound quality in bass, mids, and highs. Autoeq, sets time-alignment, eq, and crossover at once, then it allows you set your eq setting on top of their setting which is best because the unit just performed a total rta to flat given your interior and other variables in the car environment. Bt for phone and audio, comes with mic!! Most advanced deck i've used.

Weakness

The spectrum analyzer doesnt really move with the music, the sports rev analyzer doesn't really move with the motor revs. The best one at doing this was kenwood it would actually respond in realtime but who cares if the music doesn't sound right, right? I wish the display was touchscreen and was the size of the plate.
